About "Happiness"
This is an artwork with an intelligent composition and many layered connotations. The bulk of the activity in the painting is centred along a horizontal strip, with a faint vertical element breaking the pattern. With the white clouds in the backdrop, we are led into the painting; the eye meanders around the township of activity and cascades down the gurgling stream.
The painting is a jest at our pursuit of happiness. Our brimming cities are examples of the influx of migrants who leave serene villages in pursuit of the grand city dream. The high-rise that is quietly juxtaposed behind the activity of the river is the dreams of the city dwellers to slow down, to simplify life and to retire to a quiet fishing village one day. Life is indeed a game of pursuit of happiness!
