The Lone Disciple
The Lone Disciple
About "The Lone Disciple"
The artist has captured the serenity and some of the melancholy – the young monk seems at peace against an otherwise drab backdrop. He seems ready to unravel the mechanisms of suffering and happiness – the very essence of the teachings of Buddhism. The artist has succeeded in capturing myriad emotions in the tiny face of the young monk and through the use of color.
There is uncertainty, momentary contentment, longing, anxiety, and several other such experiences – all perspectives that the young monk will soon study. With the dark backdrop and the birds, in contrast with the ochre clothing there seems to be a delicate balance. This piece truly deserves a place of centrality!
