The darkened background with the low hills suggests the oncoming of dusk (Godhuli) marking the time of return of cowherds with their flock of cattle after a day of grazing and lazing. The artist’s portrayal of this pastoral tradition in a way glorifies the values of rural life – serenity, slow paced, and relaxing.

The young cowherds dressed in traditional attire are seen coaxing the cattle to return to the farm / shed.  Godhuli means dusk and the time that dust flies around with the rushed movement of the cattle – one can almost experience the humid air and smell of the earth.
